Windows Terminal Becomes The Default Command Line Console for Windows 11

According to news on December 15, Microsoft plans to use Windows Terminal as the default terminal in Windows 11 in 2022. Microsoft Windows Terminal project manager, Kayla Cinnamon, stated on the blog that Microsoft will push to all Windows 11 users in 2022 starting from Windows Insider Program.

What is the default terminal?

The default terminal is a terminal emulator that is started by default when opening a command-line application. The default terminal emulator has been the Windows console host – conhost.exe. In other words, external programs such as Command Prompt and PowerShell are all opened in the Windows console host.

Although some people hang up the third-party operating system to achieve the same effect in this way, the third-party operating system has never been truly supported by Windows. WindowsTerminal is now opening this feature, which will allow other terminals to be set as the default terminal, including Windows terminals.

Default terminal settings

Users can set the Windows terminal as the default terminal in Windows 11. The settings for the default terminal can be found in multiple locations: the developer settings page of the Windows settings, the Windows settings of the startup page, and the properties table of the Windows console host.
