Windows Subsystem for Android™ on Windows 11 Updated

Windows 11 allow users to run Android applications available in Amazon Appstore with its Windows Subsystem. But till now, it is only available for US users int he Dev Channel. On May 20, Microsoft announced the Windows Subsystem for Android™ on Windows 11 has been updated to Android 12.1.

About Windows Subsystem for Android™ on Windows 11

This update is version 2204.40000.15.0 of Windows Insiders in the Dev Channel. According to the Microsoft blog, there are a lot of exciting improvements extends beyond just the move to Android 12L, with some knowing bugs and issues, such as some apps may cannot launch.

What’s New about Windows Subsystem for Android in This Version?

Feature 1: Camera Improvements in Android Apps

Several bugs have been fixed for better camera experience, inclucing camera orientation, proper previews, and a well-rendered camera feed.

Feature 2: Settings App Redesign

The Windows Subsystem for Android Settings app has been redesigned and updated with clearer settings groups, grouped navigation and an all-around cleaner user experience. Moreover, a diagnostic data viewer was also added to check all the diagnostic data collected by the Subsystem.

Feature 3: Advanced Networking

In this new Windows Build 2204.40000.15.0, Android apps can connect to devices on the same network as your Windows PC. Then you can enjoy the Android content on a speaker on the same network.

Feature 4: Input Devices Improvements

With the bug fixes with the mouse and keyboard, there’s better scroll wheel support, fixed onscreen keyboard focus, and tweaked keyboard appearance.

  • Instability with camera on ARM devices
  • Instability printing via Android apps
  • Some apps rendered at lower resolutions may lay out incorrectly
  • Some VPNs may not work with Advanced Networking. If you use a VPN and find Android apps do not have network connectivity, please disable Advanced Networking in the Windows Subsystem for Android Settings app
  • Some apps that were previously available might be missing from the experience, fail to launch, or function incorrectly for various known issues. We’re working with our partners to address these issues as soon as possible.
