Released KB5010795 Update for Windows 11, 10 and Windows Server

Microsoft released out-of-band updates for Windows 11, Windows Server 2022, Windows 10, and other Windows client and server editions on January 17, 2022.

Microsoft admitted that the January 2022 security update caused problems, especially on Windows Server systems. Windows Update interrupting VPN connections is one of the major issues affecting users. Out-of-band updates resolve several issues in client and server versions of the Windows operating system.

Windows 11 KB5010795

KB5010795 for Windows 11 is now available via Windows Update (direct download) and WSUS (via import). This update includes the latest servicing stack update.

This update fixes two issues:

  • Fixed an issue that will cause IPSEC (IP Security) connections containing a vendor ID to fail.
  • Fixed an issue that removable media using Resilient File System (ReFS) can’t mount or mount in RAW file format.

A known issue where some “image editing programs may not render colors correctly on some high dynamic range (HDR) displays” persists.

KB5010793 for Windows 10 Versions 20H2, 21H1 and 21H2

KB5010793 for Windows 10 is available via Windows Update, Microsoft Update Catalog, and via WSUS Import.

The update fixes the following four issues:

  • Fixed an issue that could cause IPSEC (IP Security) connections containing a vendor ID to fail.
  • Fixed an issue that removable media using Resilient File System (ReFS) can’t mount or mount in RAW file format.
  • Fixed an issue that Windows servers to restart unexpectedly on domain controllers.
  • Fixed an issue that prevented Active Directory (AD) attributes from being properly written during Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) modification operations when making multiple attribute changes.

Microsoft lists three known issues, which are longstanding:

  • The new version of Microsoft Edge might fail to install on devices that use a custom ISO image or custom offline media to install the new version of Windows 10.
  • After installing KB5003690 from June 2021, some devices may fail to install the update. The error PSFX_E_MATCHING_BINARY_MISSING might occure.
  • When using Remote Desktop to connect to a device in an untrusted domain, the connection might fail to authenticate using smart card authentication. Should be resolved via known issue rollback according to Microsoft.

KB5010796 for Windows Server 2022

KB5010796 for Windows Server 2022 is available through Windows Update, it can be downloaded directly from the Microsoft Update Catalog, or it can be imported through WSUS. This update requires the installation of KB5005039 released in August 2021.

The update fixes four issues, two of which were also fixed in the aforementioned Windows 11 update, and all four were also fixed in the Windows 10 update.

  • Fixed an issue that could cause IPSEC (IP Security) connections containing a vendor ID to fail.
  • Fixed an issue that removable media using Resilient File System (ReFS) can’t mount or mount in RAW file format.
  • Fixed an issue that could cause Windows servers to restart unexpectedly on domain controllers.
  • Fixed an issue that prevented Active Directory (AD) attributes from being properly written during Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) modification operations when making multiple attribute changes.

Microsoft has listed a known issue: When using Remote Desktop to connect to a device in an untrusted domain, the connection might fail to authenticate using smart card authentication. Should be resolved via known issue rollback according to Microsoft.

Other out-of-band updates

Microsoft also released the following updates:

  • KB5010792 for Windows 10, version 1909 Fixed IPSEC issues.
  • KB5010790 for Windows 10 version 1607 and Windows Server 2016 fixed four issues which are also fixed in Windows Server 2022 update.
