How to Fix Snipping Tool Not Working on Windows 11?

Many users are discussing in the Microsoft tech community that they couldn’t start up Snipping Tool or the Snipping Tool was not working normally on Windows 11. The hot key of Win + Shift + S can not open the snipping tool; or after manually launching the tool, the +New does not work.

Microsoft announced on November 1st that due the the expiration of the digital certificate, some built-in apps’ working will be affected.The apps include Snipping Tool, Start Menu under S mode,account page and landing page in the Settings app under S mode,touch keyboard, voice typing and Emoji panel, etc. Users could press Print Screen key to take screenshot and paste it into users document or paint to save it.

While on November 5th, a new announcement was declaimed that the problem could be solved.In the Microsoft forum,Microsoft explain that the issue was fixed in the latest update.Therefore, users could update or install KB5008295 to get the snipping tool not working problem resolved.

How to Update to KB5008295 to Fix Snipping Tool Not Working?

Usually, your Windows 11 will automatically update to the latest version to fix the known bugs.But if you can not wait updating it manually, please check for update first.

Step 1: Launch Start Menu and choose Settings;

Step 2: Select Windows Update

Step 3: If you see the update message below: 2021-11 Update for Windows 11 for x64-based Systems(KB5008295),just click the Restart Now button to update your Win 11 to the latest one;

Note: If you haven’t receive the update notification, please click the Check Update button to detect the latest version.

Step 4: Try to use the hot key Win+Shift+S to launch Snipping Tool to take screenshot to test whether it can work normally or not.

If your snipping tool still can’t working, try to restart your PC to try again.
