So, if you want to fix the high disk usage in Windows 11, you can try to disable Windows search service.

Launch the Service app by typing Service in the search bar, and locate the Windows Search service, and then double click on it.

Disable SysMain Service

SysMain, also named Superfetch, is a service which can pre-load the programs you usually used to improve the system performance. Although it can improve the performance, it also results in high disk usage. So, you can try to disable SysMain service to lower your disk usage in Windows 11.

Search for Services and launch the app. Locate the SysMain service and double click on it to launch the SysMain Properties window.

Fix StorAHCI.sys Driver

Actually, Windows 11 is inefficient at allowing HDDs to use Native Command Queuing, which usually results in drivers stuck at 100% and system frozen for a long time. So, we can modify the registry to the SATA AHCI controller to solve this issue. Let’s check the steps one by one.

Launch Device Manager, right-click on Standard SATA AHCI Controller under IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers to open the SATA AHCI Controller properties.

Go to its driver and open its details to check if there’s a storahci.sys file.

Then, go back to the Details tab and search device instance path. Right-click on to copy it which will be required in the next step.

Next, launch registry editor app, open local machine, System>ControlSet001>Enum>PCI. Past the copied registry in the previous step in the url and hit enter.

Now, expand this property in the device parameters, right click on MSISupported key, choose Modify, and set its value to zero. Click OK and close all windows to restart your computer.

4 Set Virtual Memory

Set virtual memory of Windows 11 is also a way to fix high disk usage. Firstly, go to search bar and type performance monitor and click on Adjust the appearance and performance of windows on the left side in the search result windows.

Uncheck the Automatically manage paging file size for all drives option, then click on Custom size, set the maximum size which is 1.5 times the physical RAM.
